Volunteering at Photo Rogue is meant to be easy and fun. You can devote as much or as little time as you want, and you choose all of your own assignments.
The workflow is easy: whenever you have some free time and you want to take some photographs, log on to view the queue of requests from visitors. Select a request you like (and is in your area, hopefully), and it will move into the "Pending" list. When you're finished, upload your pictures into the Gallery and mark the request as complete. An email will be sent to the requester, letting them know that their request has been filled.
If you have questions about the particulars, please see the volunteering FAQ below.
Note: You should only receive email from us for announcements, which we intend to never exceed one message per week. If we ever have to change our policies, we will notify you via email only. So if you do not provide a valid email address, you will not be notified when things change. For that reason, we highly recommend that you provide an email address.
Can I retain rights to my images?
Yes. By default, pictures you contribute will be subject to the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs License, although you may choose other licenses on a per-request basis (but not on a per-photograph basis.) When uploading your pictures, you will be responsible for including a link to a deed describing your license into the description field of the album.
Remember that licenses are permanent. Once you assign a license to a photograph, you can only expand it in the future, you can not restrict it.
Can I ask you to take down my pictures later?
Yes. You will retain control over your albums in the Gallery forever. Of course, if someone is already using your images in a way compliant with the license you set, you will have no legal way of stopping them.
How much will I be paid?
Nothing. Requesters may offer money in exchange for the photographs, but they are not obligated to pay you in any way.
Are there any perks at all?
After you submit at least 100 pictures and fill at least 10 requests, you can ask for business cards. If we think you've been doing a good job, we'll send out 100 cards with: your name, email and/or phone number and the "PhotoRogue.com." These can be helpful when you're asking someone if you can take their picture. If you seem more professional, they're more likely to say, "Sure!"
How much time do I have to spend per day/week/year?
As little as none or as much as all. It's really up to you. Signing up doesn't obligate you to do anything at all.
What kind of camera do I need?
As long as you feel like you can obtain a quality image with your camera, it doesn't matter. You can use film and a scanner, you can use digital, you can use a point-and-shoot, you can use an SLR. It's up to you to select requests that don't have requirements beyond your means. For example, if someone asks for a 10-megapixel image of the Eiffel Tower, you shouldn't take that request if you only have a 3-megapixel camera.
Can I include links or a biography?
Yes. When logged in, you can provide as much information for public viewing as you want. The photographer page will contain a short blurb about you (under 100 chars) and a link to a bio page that can contain as much information as you want. This can include: links to your website, thumbnail samples, pricing information, or even a recipe for really good cheesecake.
What about privacy?
We try to guarantee as much privacy for photographers as possible. The rules are as follows:
However, we will comply with take-down requests. So you should not depend on Photo Rogue for hosting if the pictures you're providing infringe upon the law.
What if my question wasn't answered here?
